Scripture:

“God is always on alert, constantly on the lookout for people who are totally committed to him.” 2 Chronicles 16:9 (Message)

“Be generous with me and I’ll live a full life; not for a minute will I take my eyes off your road. Open my eyes so I can see what you show me of your miracle-wonders.” Psalms 119:18 )message)

Quote:

“The widest thing in the universe Is not space; it is the potential capacity of the human heart. Being made in the image of God, it is capable of almost unlimited extension in all directions. One of the world’s worst tragedies is that we allow our hearts to shrink until there is room in them for little besides ourselves.”  A.W.Tozer

Reflection:

I love watching rocket begin launched into space. There is something tantalizing about hearing the 10 second countdown to ignition and then “Lift Off!  My elementary school held model rocket launch days where students would build their rockets at home and then would bring them to school and we’d watch them shoot off into the sky only to see the “pop” of the parachute and the slow drift back to earth.

Space is boundless and truly expansive, yet I must agree with A. W. Tozer that the capacity of the human heart, or lack there of, is one of the most complex dimensions of  the way God’s infinite nature is expressed within humanity. It is only in the hearts of men  where there is an expression of a loving and infinite God. This is why when we ask God to expand our hearts, it often leads us into dimensions in him that without his guidance, we would never naturally explore. Wisdom and revelation form our limitless God allows us to know and see things about life, people and his creation that can only be given by Him.

For example, one of the great pleasures of life is to hear the God-stories of men and women of faith as they share how they got a glimpse of  the majesty of our God. It was those moments where their hearts capacity was expanded. More often than not, they will share the dual work or God’s word sown into their hearts which is then mixed with their everyday journey that produces this heart expansion. It’s probably not as simple as I make it out to be, but Holy Spirit revelation in God’s word plus applying that understanding in our daily walks seems to produce a greatly expanded heart for everything from people, to creation, to our love for our creator!

This seems to be confirmed by the biographies of men or women of faith. God’s word to their hearts which is then applied to their everyday journeys, often through difficult or challenging situations that produce a heart expansion and wonder that opens up new horizons of faith and understanding. God’s word mixed with a faithful life equals transformed lives that have a greater capacity for God and his creation.

I think that most of us would like to find ourselves in a place where our hearts can be expanded. It does require effort on our behalf, but the journey is good and blessed.

Your heart’s capacity is only limited by your desire to expand it through God’s Word and your journey with Him. It might be just as amazing as the universe. This is a journey we can be ever exploring, hand in hand with our Creator!

Prayer: Lord expand my heart. Give me insights into the amazing world in which we live, into the amazing people you have created, that are my neighbors and friends, and into your loving heart for me. I want my heart to increase so that I might love others the way you love them. I want to be open and trusting rather than closed. I know that you want to increase the capacity of my heart for joy, love and peace so that I might reflect you to this world. Amen!

mBridge Giving Challenge:  We have a new partner in Sea Partners. They are working in South Sudan, a country ravaged by civil war. Sea Partners has a project called “Farming for Peace” where they are re-establishing larger farms that can be part of the infrastructure of a functioning economy as today, most farms are subsistence farming for families. Sea Partners is purchasing water well drilling attachment to use on the 19 – 80hp farming tractors that were donated by the United Nations. $20,000 is needed. Go to mBridge.global/give to donate to this project. Thank you!
